Celebrities in Rio. Reading and Vocabulary

There were more than 10,000 athletes from over 200 nations in the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics, but the star of the evening was Brazil’s Gisele Bündchen. The world’s highest-paid model walked a runway the length of Maracana Stadium to a live performance of “The Girl from Ipanema.” And leaving no doubt about her national pride, Gisele wore a glittery dress adorned with sequins by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch in the perfect Olympic color: gold.

Given that Bündchen is one of Brazil’s most iconic celebrities, it’s only fitting that she was featured in the 2016 Games’ inaugural moments.

The world’s greatest tennis players—including Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Caroline Wozniacki—alsoappeared as they were chosen as flag bearers for Spain, Great Britain, and Denmark, respectively. Michael Phelps had the honor for the United States.
