Magic Mike And The /M/ Sound. Pronunciation Practice

The /m/ in English is pronounced with your lips pressed together. Air is blocked leaving the mouth. This makes the air and sound come through your nose. Because of that, /m/ is considered a nasal sound. Here’s a handy video to demonstrate.

We thought Magic Mike, would make for good /m/ practice. Try saying this sentence below to practice the /m/sound:

The man candy movie, Magic Mike, moved into movie theaters last week. It made many and most women say mmmm. Joe Manganiello and Channing Tatum are meaty, hunky men with mighty magical moves in this must see movie.

And because we don’t want to leave the guys out and they may not want to talk about “meaty men”, here’s a guy friendly version:

Many women may want to migrate to the movies to see Magic Mike. But not me. I don’t want to see those men and their male dance moves.

Have you seen Magic Mike? Did you like it?
