Acronyms are an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word. They are pronounced differently than the expanded forms (Federal Bureau of Investigation, is pronounced ef-bee-I).
Abbreviations are written differently from the expanded form but are pronounced the same (Mr. = Mister).
