As soon as it was announced that Miley Cyrus will be hosting the VMAs this August, parents everywhere knew it probably won’t be safe for kids to watch. ICYMI Miley caused a big stir last year when she famously twerked against Robin Thicke.
Next came the Twitter battle between Taylor Swift and Nikki Minaj. To sum it up, Swift earned a total of nine nominations, including video of the year for “Bad Blood.” Minaj was also nominated for multiple awards, including best female video and best hip-hop video for “Anaconda,” but felt insulted by her lack of a video of the year nomination.
“If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” Minaj posted to Twitter referring to the snub. Swift took offense and felt she was being attacked.
“I’ve done nothing but love & support you,” she wrote to Minaj. “It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..”
Minaj quickly responded, “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13”
Celebrities from Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian to Ed Sheeran jumped in to voice their opinion. In the end, the two girls made up. Swift first tweeted “@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on.”
We’re so glad these two settled their differences, however it has sparked quite a debate about racism and females in the music industry. What do you think?
