Ron Howard is coming to the rescue of “Star Wars.”
The beloved movie maestro has agreed to direct the unnamed Han Solo flick, just days after the shocking termination of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.
Lord and Miller had been fighting veteran screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, before Lucasfilm and Disney backed him over the directors.
The Oscar-winner Howard is expected to meet shortly with stars Danny Glover, Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and Thandie Newton to smooth over the sudden change in direction.
Howard and George Lucas go back decades. Long before Howard got behind the cameras, he was the fresh-faced star of Lucas’ breakout hit “American Graffiti” in 1973.
Howard won the 2002 directing Oscar for “A Beautiful Mind” and was nominated in 2009 for “Frost/Nixon.”
